The Academy Awards is the most anticipated awards show in Hollywood. No wonder it is called Hollywood’s biggest night. For the 85th Academy Awards, producers have prepared a show that hopes to entertain and boost ratings for the show that will broadcast in more than 225 countries all over the world. It will be held at the Dolby Theater on Sunday, February 24.
New host
All eyes will be on Seth MacFarlane as he takes center stage in hosting the 85th Academy Awards. Seth MacFarlane is most popularly known for his politically-incorrect hit animated show, “Family Guy” and his top grossing movie “Ted.”
This is the first time that MacFarlane will host the awards show. MacFarlane, along with actress Emma Stone, also announced the list of nominees back in January, something that a host of the show hasn’t done since 1972.
Producers hope that MacFarlane will attract younger audiences and help boost ratings. Viewers hope that he can add much needed levity to the more than three-hour show.
Previous hosts of the Oscars include Billy Crystal, Steve Martin and Whoopi Goldberg. Former Academy Awards show hosts Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman are nominees for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actor this year.
The host may also walk home a winner
Seems becoming a host of the Oscars may be some sort of good luck charm since two of this year’s top contenders have hosted the award show before.
Seth MacFarlane also happens to be nominated for Best Original Song. He wrote the song “Everybody Needs a Friend” for the movie “Ted.”
Many first time nominees
There will be many new faces this year, with the number of first time nominees for the 2013 Oscars aside from MacFarlane.
Hugh Jackman is up for the Best Actor category for his role as Jean Valjean in “Les Miserables.”
Another first time nominee is Bradley Cooper, who is also up for a Best Actor trophy, for his stellar performance in “Silver Linings Playbook.”
The oldest actress to be nominated for the Best Actress category this year is French actress Emanuelle Riva. The 85-year old actress is being recognized for her part in the Best Picture and Best Foreign Film movie “Amour.”
The youngest ever person nominated for a Best Actress role is Quvenzhane Wallis, who is only nine years old and has captured critical attention for her role as Hushpuppy in “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”
It’s going to be a musical show
It’s also going to be a night of music at the 85th Academy Awards. Some of the top musical talents of the industry will be performing, such as Adele, Norah Jones and Shirley Bassey.
One of the most awaited performances at this year’s Oscars will be that of Barbra Streisand.
There will also be a musical tribute to James Bond movies, which has lasted some five decades. Movie musicals will also be highlighted this year. The cast of “Dreamgirls” and “Chicago,” both Oscar winning musicals, will also be featured on stage.
