Receiving worldwide recognition and praise for her efforts, Her Majesty, Queen Sirikit of Thailand turns her attention to wildlife conservation and environmental protection. With the overwhelming destruction of forests in her country, the Queen’s objective is to promote ways to avoid further damage in the environment.
Securing Thailand’s future
Thailand is blessed with diverse ecological systems. In fact, Thailand is considered to have some of the richest wildlife and forests in the world. The richness and diversity in flora and fauna are not unknown to the Queen as she and her husband the King often roamed the various regions of Thailand.
However, not everything the Queen saw was enticing and wonderful. Her experiences gave her a clear insight on the true state of Thailand’s natural environment and wildlife. From her travels she has become more aware of the need for ecological improvements specifically with regard to protecting the forests of Thailand for future generations.
Royal duo
As of today, King Rama IX has prioritized water sources to help boost Thai agriculture. The King hopes to develop sources of water in order for the agricultural sector to improve. On the other hand, the Queen has been working against forest destruction and for watershed conservation. Queen Sirikit was gathered expert analysis to determine the root cause of forest degradation. The Queen stated that continued decrease of forest areas leading to wildlife destruction is mainly due to deforestation brought about by ignorance and abusive logging.
Leading a good example
Queen Sirikit has received numerous awards for all her accomplishments. In 2004, she was given a gold medallion by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) for her efforts to conserve and protect the natural resources of Thailand. After the award was given, the Queen stated that her ultimate dream is for people all over the world to have a sense of awareness as well as the desire to secure the welfare of their children’s future by protecting the environment. Her Majesty added that everyone has the innate capacity to spread environmental awareness and take part in helping the authorities avert abusers from degrading and violating Mother Nature.
Her Majesty’s programs
Tree planting is one of the activities that the Queen involves herself often. She is very much aware about the importance of trees in securing rainwater. Thus, her tree planting activities are being done around or near natural water sources. The Queen also never forgets to convince the locals, on every region she visits to continue replanting trees.
Queen Sirikit has always taken interest in improving people’s lives. With her compassion towards all forms of life, she started an array of conservations programs concerning wildlife, marine life, forests and watersheds. These programs were implemented all over the country. This is how the Queen has responded to the needs of her country.
The Queen’s Day
Thailand celebrates August 12 with much anticipation since it marks the birthday of Queen Sirikit. This year, the Queen’s birthday was honored in Phuket with a replanting of mangrove saplings. Leading over 200 volunteers in Klong Mudong area of Chalong was Vice Governor of Phuket, Sommai Prijasilpa.
