Austin, Texas: Next in Line to Get Google Fiber Services

Austin has been chosen next in line to get Google Fiber, a broadband and television service which is considerably faster than the other options in the market. The Texan city can expect to receive this cutting-edge technology as from 2014, when Google will finally start using the wiring they have to set up to provide the fastest Internet connection in the country.
To provide Google Fiber, Google Inc. is getting involved in some heavy-duty expenditure. The company has not commented on how much the project will cost, but experts have estimated a figure of around $84 million. The whole purpose behind the investment is to motivate innovations and subtly force the competence to improve the networks they offer. Google has stated it needs the technology to create new types of applications, and it benefits when users can get better services and therefore spend more time online.

Google Fiber Already Available in Kansas City

In Kansas City, the only place where Google Fiber is currently available, the service is growing rapidly: By the end of this year, 180 neighborhoods will have access to it. According to Google, customer demand is more than enough, with 90% of the fiberhoods in Kansas meeting the sign-up thresholds.
In Austin, Mayor Lee Leffingwell has already stated his faith in Google Fiber’s ability to boost the city’s economy. For this city, Google has not given any precise information about the cost the service will have arguing that it is still too early to forecast. However, they have assured the possible customers that the rates will not be much different from those in Kansas.
