BlackBerry 10 Launch Expected to Revive RIM Stocks

BlackBerry 10 Launch Expected to Revive RIM Stocks

Research in Motion (RIM) has something new in store for its avid followers and would be converts. They wanted to call it BBX, but it turns out somebody has beaten them to it. So, RIM has to get by with BB10 or BlackBerry 10. It doesn’t sound as edgy as BBX, but it looks likes RIM is making up for the rather benign nickname with impressive features, particularly on its software, camera, keyboard, and interface.

The BB 10 is scheduled to be launched on January 30, 2013. Rumor has it that RIM is putting its hope on this latest BlackBerry mobile OS to boost its sales and market shares. As many as 200 carriers could be offering the phone by the second quarter of 2013. This is based on the fact that by last year, 150 were already testing the new BlackBerry, and the outcomes were promising, to say the least.

BlackBerry 10: Great expectations

Rumors abound, and all we can really do is speculate on its features until we have the actual device on our hands. But we have it on good authority that these are the new features that await BlackBerry 10 users:

➢    The newest features are the “BlackBerry Hub” which consolidates all notifications that the user can access with a very convenient L-shaped swipe. The Hub is integrated with LinkedIn, Foursquare, and Facebook, which means that there’s no need to open the separate applications to access the content. Other apps just might find their way into the Hub soon after the launch.

➢    The BB 10 uses software (courtesy of QNX) that gives the phone a split personality – work and personal. It would be difficult to confuse one from the other because the background images are different, and the work mode is password-protected.

➢    “BlackBerry Flow” allows the user to link your calendar and contract entries with the profiles of the specific persons that are available on the Internet without needing to open a browser.

And there are upgrades, of course:

➢    New BlackBerry Messenger
➢    New apps – about 70, 000 in all will be introduced during the launch
➢    An intelligent keyboard that uses an algorithm that has the capacity to learn

The BlackBerry 10 will have two versions. The BB10 L-series is a full touchscreen device. RIM will also be launching a unit with a physical keyboard for BlackBerry lovers who prefer it to be a bit old-school.

BlackBerry 10: Technical Specifications

Here are the specs that BlackBerry enthusiasts think the new BB 10 will have: 1280×768 resolution on a 4.2-inch display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 2 GB RAM. The device will have a 2-megapixel front camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera.  And it will have the usual BlackBerry connectivity options

In 2012, a series of prototypes were released exclusively to developers. The first developer device (Dev Alpha A) was released during the BlackBerry 10 Jam Conference in Orlando, Florida in May 2012. The second one (Dev Alpha B) was released later around September, and the last of the series that features the actual keyboard that will be on the BB 10 was released in November 2012.

The launch is keenly awaited at a feverish pitch by avid fans.
