The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are now parents to the third in line to the British throne.
Well-wishers
Since it was announced that Duchess Catherine was in labor, British subjects and people from across the globe gathered near Buckingham Palace in anticipation of the birth of the youngest member of the royal family. There was an air of celebration in the air as people wait patiently for any updates on the mother-to-be’s status. An official bulletin was placed outside the Palace to let the crowd know what was happening as soon as the Duchess went into labor early Monday. Soon enough, the good news was posted on the bulletin indicating that both the newborn baby boy and the Duchess were doing great. People who were gathered outside the Palace celebrated the news with joy and excitement, and the rest of the world soon joined in posting greetings and well-wishes via social media.
Blue is the color of celebration
To add to the celebratory mood the fountains at Trafalgar Square turned blue. British Prime Minister David Cameron commented that citizens across the United Kingdom are now celebrating and congratulating the royal couple on the momentous event. PM Cameron added that what has just transpired is a very significant moment in British history, but most importantly, it is a milestone for the loving couple who had their first child.
A huge number of people came to give their respects to the Duchess and her newborn son, and some came with gifts. A group bore champagne, flowers and even a card for the Duchess and her son.
What’s the royal baby’s name?
At this time the whole world is waiting for the next big announcement: the name of the royal baby boy. There is no clear date yet as to when the name of Prince William’s son will be announced. Some speculate that the name will be given after the royal couple leaves the hospital while others believe that it would be announced a few days after the birth – a procedure that has been adopted previously by British royalty as a form of safeguard.
A royal welcome
Prince William, now a dad, said that both he and his wife could not be happier with the birth of their beloved son. They spent some time with the baby before calling family members, led by no less than Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen is expected to announce and welcome the new baby according to a source at Kensington Palace.
The Duchess was not alone while giving birth. Prince William stayed at his wife’s side all throughout until the baby was born. The prince was delivered via normal birth. The royal couple is expected to spend the night at the hospital and no public appearance has been scheduled yet. On Tuesday, a multi-gun salute will be executed to mark the birth of the royal baby.
Good for business
According to the Centre for Retail Research based in the UK an estimated $121 million worth of toys and souvenirs will be offered by retailers across the country. Royal baby related products range from infant cloths, potty chairs, diaper covers and a myriad of others.
