Energizer Bunny
It keeps going and going and going…ad infinitum. Well, that is what the advertisement for the bass drum-beating pink bunny wearing shades and white and blue sandals on its feet says. The toy bunny is the mascot of Energizer alkaline battery, launched in Missouri in 1989. It started as a parody on the Duracell Bunny mascot of rival Duracell battery, which was launched in 1973. When Duracell failed to renew its U.S. trademark, rival company, then named Eveready, seized the opportunity and used their Energizer bunny for their advertising campaign, which eventually became a highly successful marketing ploy. To date the Energizer Bunny has appeared in more than 100 television commercials. The Energizer Bunny appears in North America (U.S. and Canada) while the Duracell Bunny is available in Europe and Australia. In these regions, the specific battery brand has entered the local jargon, to mean something that works or goes on indefatigably.
