The biggest night in American television is soon to come. The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards is set on September 22, 2013, Saturday. It will be broadcast live around the world by CBS from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California. The Primetime Emmy Awards annually recognizes excellence in both the creative arts and technical areas of television programming. Aside from the regular awards where there are nominees, special honors are also given.
Multi-talented celebrity, Neil Patrick Harris will host the much awaited awards show for the second time. Harris is also a producer for the show this year. He was very successful in his first stint as Emmy host in 2009 and was considered by CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler as “the quintessential host.” Last year, Jimmy Kimmel’s hosting sting got mostly lukewarm reviews. Harris is expected to do better and many believe he will.
Second-time host
The many talents of Neil Patrick Harris come in handy whenever he is given the challenging task of hosting a show, amply demonstrated in his Emmy-winning stints as host of the Tony Awards. Everyone at CBS as well as television fans are excited to have Harris, the star of the popular sitcom, “How I Met Your Mother” at the helm of the Primetime Emmy Awards this year. Harris debuted in television many years ago with the acclaimed TV drama series, “Doogie Howser, MD” which aired from 1989 to 1993.
Harris’s career has blossomed since then and more recently he is being perceived as a professional host of award shows given his history with the Tony and now with the Emmy.
First time performer
In the 64 years of the show’s history, the Primetime Emmy Awards will finally have one of the most awarded, respected, and admired songwriters in the music industry. This year, pop music icon Sir Elton John will perform a tribute to American singer and pianist, Liberace. The film, “Behind the Candelabra” which is based on Liberace’s life and career got 15 Emmy nominations for HBO this year. The film stars Matt Damon and Michael Douglas who are expected to present during the awards night. Both have been nominated this year as well.
Sir Elton’s performance is quite timely since he has a new album coming out on September 24, his first full release in seven years.
Presenters galore
Aside from Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, a few more pairings have been announced as presenters for the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards on September 22. Sisters Emily Deschanel (“Bones”) and Zooey Deschanel (“New Girl”) who both have top rated shows on FOX will present, and so will Anna Faris and Allison Janney who star in the CBS show “Mom.” Veteran stage and television actress Diahann Carroll (“White Collar”) is paired with Kerry Washington for her performance in ABC’s “Scandal.” Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who received rave reviews as host of this year’s 70th annual Golden Globe Awards will also be presenting. The two ace comediennes have between them a total of 11 Emmy nominations this year.
