Disney Infinity is a forthcoming video game that will allow players to choose Disney characters and deploy them as they see fit. For Disney fans this kind of access in a sandbox-like environment poses exciting thrills and infinite possibilities. And yes, Disney-Pixar characters are in the mix as well as revealed by John Vignocchi, a Disney Interactive executive producer. Vignocchi recently revealed some of the game’s exciting features at a demonstration in New York City.
The concept
The idea for Disney Infinity is to steer away from typical strategies employed in video games. Disney has decided not to create a game for every hit animated movie or television series. Instead, with Infinity, all the beloved, feared, admired, and world-famous characters from every single franchise will be available. The players will have the freedom to create their own narrative from the extensive resources provided by the game.
Shuffling franchises
In the demonstration, Vignocchi showed Sulley of the global hit animated movie, “Monsters, Inc.” geared up with a jet pack that originally belongs to Buzz Lightyear of the “Toy Story” franchise soaring through the open world of Infinity. On the big screen, Sully then flew over the landscape on a hover board that made its first appearance in another Disney-Pixar flick, “The Incredibles.” With another manipulation of the X-Box controller, the villainous Syndrome who challenged Mr. Incredible made an entrance in a pumpkin carriage. Yes, the one from Cinderella. The point is, there are no limits to Infinity and anything can happen. The players can do whatever they want.
An exciting mish-mash
Vignocchi pointed out that the world Sully was exploring was a mashed-up Walt Disney Universe and A Disney mash-up would include the Matterhorn ride from Disneyland, Sleeping Beauty’s castle, and the money tower that belongs to Scrooge McDuck. Indeed, what could be better than a video game where you can create your own customized adventure with your favorite characters? This “animated hodgepodge” allows the player to bring together Captain Jack Sparrow, Lightning McQueen, and Mike Wazowski and create adventures for them over and beyond the familiar stories.
Game on
During the demonstration, another cool feature of the game was amply shown. Syndrome’s unlikely ride, the pumpkin carriage could turn into a go-kart (recalling “Cars”) with a little fiddling about with the controller. If the player wants it to become a monster truck then it only takes one flick of the controls and with one press of a button, the truck could suddenly sprout guns.
The Disney Infinity starter kit costs US $74.99. The package includes the futuristic Infinity Base. Disney fans and video gamers are attached to various types of consoles. The device is compatible with Xbox, Sony, and Wii. And for those who are always on the go a mobile version is coming soon, of course.
There is no guarantee yet whether this Disney product will be a success. But the trailer is available for viewing. And both children and adults who grew up with Disney characters will definitely find it intriguing very at the least.
