The Helsinki Airport is the sixth best airport in Europe and the 16th best in the world. Finland’s airport gains recognition from the World Airport Awards.
Passengers that have been to Helsinki Airport only have praise for its staff and facilities. It has been listed as the best airport in Northern Europe this year by the World Airport Awards. Helsinki Airport is operated by Finavia. The awards are conducted annually by Skytrax, a travel research firm that has international coverage. It also garnered sixth place as the best airport in Europe and the sixth best in the world.
In 2010, Helsinki Airport was nominated as the best in the continent. It has also been awarded as the airport with the Best Baggage Delivery and Best Airport Security Processing by Skytrax. Meanwhile, in the Best Airline category, Finnair was awarded the best carrier for Northern Europe. Helsinki Airport happens to be Finnair’s hub.
The World Airport Awards
About 12.1 million passengers were surveyed for a period of nine months. The survey involved 39 products and services. Almost 400 airports around the world were evaluated for the awards for particular aspects of their services to travelers including transfers, security, immigration, arrivals, check-in, and shopping.
The top award goes to Singapore. Changi Airport is the Best Airport in the World for 2013. The announcements were made on April 10 in Geneva, Switzerland during the 2013 Passenger Terminal Expo.
Finland is proud
Airport Director Ville Haapasaari says that its position as one of the best in Europe is strengthened. The recognition is a confirmation that customer services in the airport has improved, and that it is successful in providing air travelers a smooth traveling experience. Director Haapasaari says that all the dedication and hard work of airport staff have paid off. “It is an achievement,” he stated. Helsinki Airport is the main transit airport that connects Asia and Europe.
He added that the competition is intensifying even more especially when it comes to transfer traffic and in order to be competitive they need to work on improving on their services. Last year, 14.9 passengers went through Helsinki Airport and 31% of this volume was transfer passengers.
