Paul Walker’s daughter files lawsuit against Porsche

16 year-old Meadow Walker, Paul Walker’s daughter, has presented a lawsuit against Porsche, under allegations of negligence, wrongful death, and other accusations. The famous actor of “The Fast and The Furious” franchise, died in a car crash on Nov. 30th, 2013. A few minutes after leaving his own charity event in Santa Clarita, CA. the Porsche Carrera GT he was riding in crashed into a tree and burst into flames. Walker and his friend, Roger Rodas, who was driving the car, and apparently lost control of the vehicle due to high speed, were pronounced dead on the scene.

Paul Walker was only 40 years old.

The suit filed by the actor’s daughter claims the car lacked safety features “found on well-designed racing cars or even Porsche’s least expensive road cars”. Those safety features could have prevented the accident, and the actor’s death. According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, the car was traveling at “approximately 100-plus” miles per hour. However, the lawsuit states the speed was actually between 63 and 71 miles per hour.

The lawsuit also indicates that the manufacturer knew about the many design flaws of Carrera GT’s, such as the absence of an electronic stability control system (which helps stabilize the vehicle when it detects loss of steering control), a defective seat belt system, and poor reinforcement of the side doors.

Porsche referred to the lawsuit through its spokesperson Calvin Kim, who stated: “As we have said before, we are very sad whenever anyone is hurt in a Porsche vehicle, but we believe the authorities’ reports in this case clearly establish that this tragic crash resulted from reckless driving and excessive speed.” Meadow Walker’s attorney Jeff Milam said she will not be commenting on the lawsuit, which was filed “ with great reluctance”.
