This is the eighth time that Woods wins the Arnold Palmer Invitational. This is a good win for the American, who had dropped to the 58th rank in November 2011, which is a career low for him. Nevertheless, this is his third title for 2013 and his 77th PGA title.
Against the weather
Woods stopped contenders for the top spot, including Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler. He excelled tremendously in the last round. The weather didn’t cooperate when a combination of rain, wind and lightning added to the game, uprooting several trees in the Orlando course and resulted in suspension of play on Sunday. The game continued after the sky cleared up the next day.
Rickie Fowler came within two shots of Tiger Woods and had four holes remaining. However he dropped four strokes in the first two holes then has a triple-bogey eight at the 16th hole, putting his golf ball into the water twice.
Woods was not doing much better earlier either although he managed to steel his nerves. He had several shots that went to the right, and at the 16th hole went into the large fairway bunker, dropping a shot in the water earlier. He had a great escape landing the ball into the green and had a birdie with two putts. His score was 2 under 70.
Determination leads to success
Woods said that his hard work has paid off during an interview with Golf Channel. He added that his game is a testament that he is once again moving up the ladder.
When asked by the media if Lindsey Vonn is the inspiration to his success, he simply said that they are off track with questions like that.
On April 11, which is just two weeks from now, Tiger Woods will be at the Masters Series. He’ll try ending his 5-year drought in the major tournaments. He has 14 titles in the majors but is yet to add to the tally since his 2008 win in the U.S. Open.
