The team owners have made the final vote. The NFL announced on Tuesday that the Super Bowl L goes to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2016. The venue is the new Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, which opens in 2014. The stadium is almost 50% complete and is located next to the training complex of the San Francisco 49ers. The stadium stands across the Santa Clara Convention Center and next to Great America amusement park. The strength of San Francisco’s bid is mostly based on the high-end facilities.

The announcement was made by Commissioner Roger Goodell and was greeted with cheers. The San Francisco bid committee toasted the win with champagne. The San Francisco vote was decided on the first ballot. This is the first time this happened in 10 years.

The winning bid

Jed York, the CEO of the 49ers said that they are very excited to hold the 50th Super Bowl and that it’s awesome that they’ve given the game back to San Francisco, and at the 50th anniversary of the Golden State at that.

This is the second time that San Francisco will host this huge sporting event. The last time was in 1985. The venue was Stanford Stadium and the last game was between Miami Dolphins and the 49ers. The 49ers won the Super Bowl title, the second of the five that it holds.

The Super Bowl next February is to be held in New Jersey and the next one will be held in Glendale Arizona in 2015.

Super Bowl LI goes to Houston

Miami did not get the vote for Super Bowl LI. The owner of the Dolphins, Stephen Ross said that he had big hopes and the bid that was put together was pretty good. But he understands that the stadium is the issue, he said. An 11th Super Bowl would have been a record for Miami. The lost vote is not just a great loss for Miami, but it has also dimmed South Florida’s prospects for another hosting. It may have to wait ten years or more for another chance to host despite the attractions and ideal weather. Miami is facing really intense competition.

After San Francisco hosts the Super Bowl for the second time, Houston comes next.

The 2017 Title Game goes to Houston

The Reliant Stadium will host the Super Bowl after San Francisco. The home of the Houston Texans has once served as host back in 2004. Bob McNair, owner of the Houston Texans said that the hosting event is an opportunity to showcase the city since the whole world will be watching.

No upgrades in South Florida just yet

Miami was hoping for its 11th game. The bid suffered greatly from the refusal of the Florida lawmakers to approve a referendum that allots $200 million for the required improvements to the Sun Life Stadium worth around $400 million. The NFL has requested the upgrades on the home of the Miami Dolphins since the 2010 championship was hit by the rain. In this game the Indianapolis Colts overwhelmed the Chicago Bears.
