Setting their home court on fire, the Miami Heat beat the San Antonio Spurs in Game 7 of the NBA with a score of 95-88. The Spurs failed to attain the distinction of being the first road team to ever win the Game 7 finals since 1978. Tension filled the air as Miami’s finest rallied across every quarter to maintain their lead. San Antonio’s Tim Duncan gave his best making 24 points and 12 rebounds. Nevertheless, Miami’s awesome performance brought the game into its not so surprising end.
Making history
NBA history changed when Miami Heat got their 2nd NBA title in two consecutive years. The LA Lakers held the prior record after winning the 2009 and 2010 championships. The 2013 finals is also only the third time in the past nine years to have a Game 7. According to basketball enthusiast, this is the pattern they have been waiting for and they would definitely love to get more in the upcoming seasons.
David Stern, NBA commissioner for the past 30 years only had 5 opportunities to see the ultimate game in the league. According to Stern, Game 7 is as good as it gets. With two legendary teams both possessing all star players and titles within their belts, this Game 7 proved to be epic, exhilarating, and exciting in every possible way.
Victory at last
The winning team went through hard work with each and every game that brought them to Game 7. Now they’ve arrived at the place where every team wanted to be. Game 6 was a very close call, but after giving their all and pushing the game to overtime, the Miami Heat got their chance at the championships. Game 7 was everything basketball fans expected it to be.
Leading the Heat to victory is all-time NBA superstar LeBron James. James scored 37 points with 12 rebounds giving his team the boost it needed to finally put Game 7 to an end. Also contributing significantly to the scoring streak is Dwayne Wade with 23 points under his belt and 10 rebounds. Shane Battier scored 18 points, some of it on the 3 point line.
The MVP
LeBron James got the MVP title this year making him one of the very few NBA players honored with the same award more than four times in their basketball career. Crowned as the most valuable player of the 2013 NBA finals, LeBron James expressed immense satisfaction after the gruesome and intense games of the season, especially Game 7.
A legend in his own right
Basketball history was been re-written when LeBron James raised the MVP trophy. His name is now part of the list of legendary ball players that he once and still considers his idols. James is now among the very short list of five players to get the MVP title more than four times. The list of legends includes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with six MVP titles, Michael Jordan with five, Bill Russell with five and Wilt Chamberlain with four.
