The Rugby League World Cup (RLWC) has come home this year to its country of origin. Participants from different countries are readying themselves to go to the United Kingdom for a chance to hold the championship trophy. England and Wales are the main hosts of the October 26 to November 30, 2013 tournament. A few matches will be held in Ireland and France as well. The United Kingdom last hosted this sporting event in 2000 to mixed reviews. The last RLWC was held in Australia in 2008 and the trophy was won fair and square by New Zealand over the host country.
Participating countries in the RLWC 2013
The 2013 Rugby League World Cup is considered by many enthusiasts as the most exciting and exhilarating full contact sport in the world. This year’s main rugby sporting event is going to be participated by 14 teams, namely, Australia, England, Cook Islands, Fiji, Ireland, France, Italy, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, Samoa, Tonga, the United States of America, and Wales. This year will be the fourteenth staging of the Rugby World Cup and through the years many teams have been joining this event. For the United States and Italy, this year will be their first appearance in the tournament.
Parliament is getting ready
This year’s event is especially important since Scotland, Wales, Ireland and England are all competing. The teams have been competing separately instead of under just one banner, “Great Britain,” since 1995. With these four teams participating, the House of Parliament is giving a very welcoming reception to the world rugby community and the MP’s are all giving their support.
With less than two months before the grand opening of the Rugby League World Cup, Members of the English Parliament are setting up a gathering on September 3 to celebrate and at the same time strategize on how England could bring home the bacon. Holding the 2013 Rugby League World Cup on its place of origin is such a momentous occasion for the sporting event and England will do everything in its power to win.
The biggest and the best Rugby League World Cup
The RLWC 2013, according to Greg Mulholland, Parliamentary Rugby League Group Chairman, is the first major sporting event to be held in the United Kingdom after the 2012 London Olympics. He also added that the event is going to be another great opportunity for the people of Britain to witness and enjoy world class sports.
The opening ceremony is set at the Millennium Stadium located in Cardiff. It is one of the biggest stadiums in the UK with a total capacity of 74,500 seats. Wembley Stadium is going to be the venue of the two semi-final matches. This stunning location has a 90,000 capacity and is quite a sight to see. The finals will be held at the Old Trafford Stadium. With over 76,212 seating capacity, it is indeed a very prestigious site to hold the RLWC2013 championship.
Nigel Wood, Tournament Director expressed his gratitude to those who are voluntarily helping in the preparations for the upcoming Rugby League World Cup. He also took note about the MP’s support in promoting the event. With everyone helping out from the different constituents in the UK, the RLWC2013 is expected not only to be the biggest but also the best RLWC in history.
