Warren Buffett’s New Trick: 10,000 Twitter Followers in 10 Minutes

The latest news on Warren Buffett is not another multi-million dollar acquisition. The feat that everyone’s been talking about is this: 10,000 followers on Twitter in 10 minute’s time. Finally, billionaire Warren Buffett has made his long-awaited debut on the social micro-blogging site. Buffett is notorious for shying away from new technology and openly shuns hi-tech innovations.

Buffett made his Twitter debut “Live” during a webcast organized by Fortune Magazine. His digital debut happened at the wake of the magazine’s publication of an essay written by him on women in the workplace.

Two tweets so far

“Warren is in the house.” That’s what Buffett himself sent out to the Twittaverse when he posted for the first time. The number of followers went up to 45,000 in a quarter of an hour and three hours later, the count has reached 140,000. He’s already verified, of course with 298,157 followers as of this writing.. People are saying that Buffett accumulates followers at an even faster rate than he acquires money.

Buffett has not followed anyone yet and he has two tweets so far. After the initial greeting, he posted this via the handle @WarrenBuffett: “Read my new essay on why women are key to America’s prosperity: cnnmon.ie/18eXfik .”

A legendary investor

Warren Buffett has been a key figure in the American business community for decades. He is the CEO and chairman of Berkshire Hathaway and has been given the title, “The Oracle of Omaha” (“The Sage of Omaha” for some). He is 82 years old and still the head of the company that he has built.

Buffett’s company has ownership claims to 80 other companies in many different business investments including insurance, furniture, utilities, clothing, railways, and jewelry. Aside from these initiatives, Berkshire Hathaway has major stakes in other huge multinationals such as Coca-Cola, IBM, and Wells Fargo.

Annual shareholding meeting coming up

Investment guru Warren Buffett is expected to preside over the shareholder meeting that is conducted by Berkshire Hathaway every year. This time, the meeting is scheduled to be held in Omaha, Nebraska. Thirty-five thousand attendees are expected. In the past, these inventors would tweet the proceedings and what Buffett says during the meetings as they occur.

It remains to be seen whether the former technophobe would be tweeting during the shareholder meeting. His followers will definitely be waiting around for any inside information from the CEO himself.

Retweets and favorites

So far, his second tweet has amassed thousands of retweets and favorites. Apparently, those who took the time to read the essay liked the content. Posted replies include “go warren,” “Great Read,” and “this is pure joy,” and “smart dude.”

The first tweet is probably making history at the moment with thousands and thousands of  retweets and favorites and a lot of the replies simply ask, “What took you so long?” or repeat the original tweet, “Warren is in the house.” The rest are a variety of expressions of a warm welcome, from the formal, “Welcome to Twitter, Mr. Buffet” to the rather sentimental, “Be still my heart. Welcome.”
