Mojang became popular and well-known within the gaming community after releasing Minecraft in the market. It has sold over 17 million copies worldwide and is considered as one of the best video games ever developed in the past years. Having a successful run with Minecraft, Mojang is now setting on a new venture in the realm of virtual card games called Scrolls.
Virtual card game enthusiasts will surely get hooked up with the hippest and most exciting card game Mojang has recently launched. Earlier this week beta players were able to experience the beta version of the Scrolls game for only $20. Availing of the package entitles the player to receive free updates at a discounted price.
The gameplay
Playing Scrolls is very easy. The game is all about beating the opponent with the virtual cards that a player holds. Virtual cards can be acquired either by trading with other players or they can be bought with the currency of the game, which in this case is gold. A player also has the option to spend real money and have it converted to gold in order to buy certain online items. For the elite gamer, acquiring gold is done after each battle has ended.
The main objective of the game is to outsmart the opponent by using various tactics and moves. Every player has his own heroes, spells and artifacts to use. Players need to strategize and have a clear tactical plan if they want to get ahead in this game.
Not that easy to win
Winning the game is not as easy as it sounds. The virtual board is divided into 2 halves meant to be occupied by the players. Each player will have his own five structures to defend against the opponent, called idols. The rule in winning the game is very simple. The first player to destroy of his opponent’s idols wins. A player can use heroes, spells and artifacts as implements a to either defend or destroy the opponent’s idols.
Mojang will battle it out with Blizzard later this year
Techie gamers have only just found out that Mojang is the only developer that recently created a game based on a deck of cards. But according to some Blizzard fans, Mojang will have to look out later this year because Blizzard, the World of Warcraft developer, is also planning to release a battle game card that is based on the Warcraft story line. It was announced that Blizzard would be calling its new game Hearthstone. Mojang will have to brace itself since Warcraft is best known for awesome story lines and mind-blowing game plays.
A few bumps on the road
Developing Scrolls was not an easy task for Mojang. Reports have stated that there were some legal issues the Minecraft developer had to deal with before it could officially launch Scrolls. Bethesda, maker of the role-playing game Elder Scrolls has filed a legal claim arguing that the use of the word “scroll” might trigger confusion amongst consumers. The developers later reached an agreement and Mojang was allowed to use the name Scrolls with the condition of not developing a competitor against Bethesda’s brainchild video game series.
