Terror in Boston Still Not Over

Just three days after the twin explosions that marred the happy day of the Boston Marathon, the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology located in downtown Boston, is now in the center of the news. MIT is just a short distance from where the finish line of the Boston Marathon was located. It was forced to lock down when a police officer went down, after responding to a disturbance at the university campus near Main and Vasser Streets close to eleven in the evening. He was brought to the hospital but did not make it due to multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting is believed to be related to the Boston Marathon bombing. The terror in the city is not yet over.

Car chase

Afterwards there were reports of several police cars racing away from the university, responding to a report of carjacking. There were also reports of gunshots and explosions heard. Police reported that an SUV had been carjacked and that hand grenades were being thrown from the car. The driver is believed to be a suspect involved in shooting the police officer.

Bombing suspects

The FBI had released the photos of the two suspects in the bombing incident. One was wearing a black hat while the other one had a white hat. The two men had fair skin and in their early 20s. Initially the suspects being chased from the gunning down of the police officer were not yet linked to the bombing. After leaving MIT using the officer’s patrol car, the two suspects managed to rob a 24-hour convenience store and then hijacked a Mercedes SUV.

Police closed the streets of Watertown. With nowhere to pass, the two suspects in the stolen vehicle exchanged gunfire with the police officers. The exchange of gunfire stopped when one of the suspects ran towards the police officers. It was not immediately known if he was shot but he fell down. Later it was learned that he was the man that was wearing the black hat in the photos released by the FBI. He had an improvised bomb strapped to his chest which could have been set off during the exchange of gunfire. Police brought him to the hospital for treatment. Doctors said he succumbed from extreme trauma. His trunk had multiple gunshot wounds as well as shrapnel.

The other one drove through the police barricade and managed to escape. He is still at large and the object of a massive manhunt. He might also have a explosive device strapped to his body.
