World-renowned pop singer Madonna Ciccone, the Queen of Pop, is now focusing her attention on helping girls’ education in South Asia as well in the Middle East. And her latest attempt at raising funds for her newfound cause has caught the attention of the world media.

The pop superstar very recently sold her painting “Trois Femmes a la Table Rouge” by famous cubist artist Fernand Leger in an auction organized by Sotheby in order to raise funds for this cause. The global pop icon specifically stated that the sale of the painting will be put to use for something more valuable.

Done deal at $7.2 million

According to Madonna, she acquired the panting in 1990 for $3.4 million. The painting was sold at $7.2 million. All of the proceeds will be given to her Ray of Light Foundation. This body will lead the campaign to provide quality and equal education for women in countries in need such as Pakistan.

Inspired by courage

Madonna posted on Facebook the picture of 15-year old Malala Yousafzai and wrote a thank you note to those who helped her sell the million-dollar artwork. Malala is a Pakistani teenager who fought for her right and her beliefs on the right of women to education. Because of her activism, Malala was targeted by the Taliban in 2012. She survived an assassination attempt and has fled to Britain where she could continue her work.

Wanting to silence Malala in publicizing her thoughts about Pakistani women’s right to education, the Taliban failed in their purpose and only helped the young activist’s voice to be heard by the rest of the world.

More than material support

Madonna definitely heard Malala’s plea. The multi-awarded and consummate performer has openly expressed her feelings about girls and women being shot or killed just by wanting to go to a school or have access to proper education. Madonna was inspired by the courage of Malala and hoped to make more girls happy and empowered by supporting such initiatives.

Funds for charity

Madonna has been engaged and is actively contributing to lots of charitable institutions like Amnesty International, Children in Need and UNICEF. She was previously focused on building schools in Malawi. She has funded “Raising Malawi Organization” that aims to build school buildings in Malawi, Africa for children who do not have the resources to be educated.

According to reports, the singer devotes a lot of time on her charity work. Two of the singer’s adopted children were born in Malawi.

Not without detractors

However, Mrs. Eunice Kazembe, Africa’s Education Minister, torched the singer’s cause and told the press that Madonna’s charitable efforts with Raising Malawi was being exaggerated by the media. According to her Madonna was boasting to have built ten schools while to her knowledge there were only classrooms. According to the press that witnessed Kazembe’s statement, the Education Minister was not pleased with the alleged misinformation on Raising Malawi that was leaked to the public.
