Tuesday, September 19th, New York, the United States President, Donald Trump, delivered a 41-minute address to the United Nations General Assembly for the first time.

In his speech, he covered a lot of ground. He talked about the many important issues going on right now in the United States and in the world.

He began by voicing his appreciation to the world leaders that offered aid to the recent hurricane victims in Texas and Florida.

He then discussed how the US economy is doing “very well” and how Americans are seeing unemployment rates at its lowest levels in 16 years, thanks to the regulatory reforms that have brought back American factories to US soil.

President Trump also talked about foreign issues like the “catastrophic” deal with the Iranian government and how the United States is willing to pull out of it.

Everything seemed to be going well until Mr. Trump took on the North Korean regime.

Name Calling at the United Nations

Trump denounced the young North Korean leader at the United Nations General Assembly, saying that he “threatens the entire world with unthinkable loss of life.”

Despite the seriousness of this diplomatic event, President Trump took the chance to ridicule the North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un by performing his “name-calling” act in front of all world leaders and UN ambassadors. Calling him “Rocket man”, he made a clear reference to the latest missile tests that flew over Japan and landed in the ocean.

He then delivered a serious warning to the North Korean regime by adding that “Rocket man” was on a “suicide mission for himself” and that the United States was “ready, willing, and able.” If forced to defend itself or its allies, it will have no choice but to “totally destroy North Korea.”

Right after his warning, he tried to de-escalate the rhetoric by saying that “hopefully this will not be necessary.” And urged the United Nations to work harder to further isolate North Korea economically.

“That’s what the United Nations is all about; that’s what the United Nations is for. Let’s see how they do”, Trump said.

North Korean Ambassadors Walked Out

While Mr. Trump was addressing the United Nations General Assembly, the cameras briefly showed two empty chairs where the North Korean ambassadors were sitting right before the US. President began his speech.

Mr. Trump then finished by thanking China and Russia for voting in favor of the sanctions that the United Nations Security Council recently imposed on North Korea. Yet, in an indirect statement, he urged China and Russia to cut any financial support to the regime.

“It is an outrage that some nations would not only trade with such a nation but would arm, supply and financially support a country that imperils the world.”

Trump’s rhetoric is probably a clear sign that patience is running out and that the United States is not willing to wait much longer for the North Korean regime to come to its senses.

Yesterday’s remarks will certainly outrage the North Koreans who will probably respond in their own way.
