The New York Yankees Surprised a Foundation and Baked Cookies With Them For a Great Cause

For several years, since Frank Squeo founded Baking Memories 4 Kids, he’s been sur-prising many children suffering from life-threatening and terminal illnesses by giving them their dream vacations in Florida’s amusement parks.

Last week, Frank Squeo almost fainted when members of the New York Yankees decided to come and help out in his New York-based foundation.

Last day of the Yankees’ HOPE Week

Helping Others Persevere and Excel or “H.O.P.E”, is an annual program of the New York Yankees. The aim of the program is to honor organizations, families and individuals that are worthy of support and Baking Memories 4 Kids’ founder Frank Squeo was chosen as the final honoree for their HOPE Week.

Thus, on August 21, New York Yankees players Greg Bird, Brendan Ryan, Ivan Nova, Nathan Eovaldi, CC Sabathia and Alex Rodriguez donned aprons and baked cookies in the kitchen in Rockland BOCES, which had been hosting the foundation volunteers in its kitchen for the past two years.

Squeo established the foundation in 2012 after two years of paperwork. He himself was a cancer survivor. Of Italian descent, he has been baking chocolate chip cookies using a secret family recipe to give out to his clients on holidays. The foundation is totally run by volunteers, and part of the proceeds from the sale of cookies goes to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

So for the past three years, deserving children were given a dream family vacation at the Give Kids the World Village in Orlando, Florida. The foundation has processed 10,000 orders of cookies, and has sent eleven families to the theme parks in Florida.

By the end of 2016, the foundation will be sending an additional eleven more families. The New York Yankees and Bake Memories 4 Kids are teaming up to give Noah Diaz and his family a very special treat. Noah, who is only four years old, suffers from Kabuki syndrome and has a rare heart defect called hypoplastic left heart syndrome. He and his family became special guests at the Yankees stadium for a day and were also given the dream vacation gift during the pre-game ceremony the Yankees staged for them. Normally, the foundation starts giving out the surprise dream vacations in November.
