New gadget and tech fans are on their toes about the possibility of a Xiaomi Mi Note 2 launch on October 25.  It was revealed that Xiaomi has scheduled an event on the said date in China, thus, speculation is high once again that the long-awaited launch is finally happening after so many leaks and rumors.

Based on Xiaomi’s official Weibo account, a teaser image was posted, which included the date, thus the new round of speculations that it would be the launch of the latest addition to the smartphone market, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2. What’s true is that an event will be hosted by Xiaomi at the Peking University Gymnasium on the same date, which is where the launch is expected to happen. The host for said event is Tony Leung, a popular Chinese actor based in Hong Kong.

What’s known so far

The rumor mill is busier than ever. Spy shots have shown that Xiaomi Mi Note 2 has a curved screen. The best feature is its bezel-less design, meaning the border is almost non-existent around its screen, which is said to be 5.7 inches.

Also, from the previous findings of the tech rumor mill, more features about the new smartphone are floating around. It’s said that there are two specs available. One version has a 5.7″ 1080p screen. It will have 64GB storage and 4GB of RAM. The other version will sport a QHD screen, 128 GB storage (which is speculated to go higher, up to 256GB) and 6GB of RAM. The body is only 6.5mm thick, yet both versions will have a 4,000 mAh battery, Snapdragon 821 chipset and a dual 16MP camera.

In the latest set of rumors and leaks, Mi Note 2 will have an all top display. There will be no front camera and no sensors, which will make the new phone very different from models that are currently available in the market. Likewise, it will not sport a dual-edge display.

Posts from Weibo are the sources of new leaked photos of Xiaomi Mi Note 2. A very thin bezel surrounds the phone on its four sides. The bottom chin where the navigation buttons are usually placed as well as the top part where the front camera and sensors are supposed to be located are missing, indicating that an edge-to-edge display will be one of the main features of Mi Note 2. Based on the leaked photos, it will run on MIUI OS.

Since the leaked photos only showed the front of the smartphone, the rumor that it will have dual camera setup might still be true. Two speaker grilles at the bottom of the phone, and a front-located fingerprint sensor are also anticipated to be included.

More details about the smartphone and its actual launch are still hush-hush. It was expected to be launched last September 14, so the anticipation died down a bit. But expectations are getting higher again after CEO Lei Jun mentioned that Xiaomi Mi Note 2 would have a surprise when it launches.
